A call for donations of flyfishing equipment was issued to the club's members. Good response was given by our members & assembly-rigging & needed repairs of the gear were accomplished. A total of eight fly rods were donated to the members of the Latino Youth Laedership team. Equipment donors:

Members of the Latino Youth Leadership Team were treated to a fishing outing at Agate Lake for the ODFW free fishing day. John Ward;Dagoberto Morales (parent of youth); Kathy Keesee (parent of youth). [Teh Latino Youth Leadership Team was transported to Agate Lake by John Ward & were coached in fishing. The latino parents provided assistance.]

RFF volunteers supported the Kids & Bugs: Chicos Latinos – 2008 program at Bear Creek Park in Medford. We manned two stations where the kids received hands-on experience in fly casting and fly tying. Roadside litter cleanup – RFF Adopt-A-Hwy project – was accomplished along Takelma Drive from Hwy 62 to the end of the pavement. It turned out to be a two-phase event. The original Jan 26th event was cancelled due to the weather (too much snow covering trash) but four people who didn’t get the cancellation notification showed up and it was decided to do a one-hour cleanup with Jack & Jan Rowe taking first prize with 25 lb of trash. For the Feb 9th event, nine volunteers took part in the cleanup work. Our sincere thanks and appreciation are extended to everyone who participated in this unpleasant but worthwhile event. Volunteers provided information-instructions to students from local elementary schools, middle schools, and one high school in support of Oregon Trout’s Salmon Watch program. Topics included water quality, the riparian zone, macroinvertebrates, and the life cycle of salmon.

Corps of Engineers had a cleanup project in the Elk Creek area off Old Elk Creek Rd. RFF members placed signs that designated the area as a Wildlife Management area. The signs were needed to discourage motorized vehicle traffic.

RFF members instructed youth in the art of fly tying & fly casting at the Kids & Bugs program at Bear Creek Park, Medford. Two stations were set up for these instructions, which were given to eight groups of 8-10 kids. RFF has supported this event each year since its inception. Other southern Oregon organizations were also involved in this large project.

10-08-05 Flyfishing for steelhead was taught by volunteer instructors from RFF during the ODFW sponsored Becoming and Outdoors Woman (BOW) program which was held at Valley of the Rogue State Park. Instructions covered all of the basic aspects needed for beginners to get started in this facet of the sport. There were approximately 30 women participating in the BOW program. It was reported that at least two participants hooked fish, but didn’t land them.
